Volunteer Opportunities

First State Squash is always looking for new ways to support the Wilmington community.

Are you a community member or organization interested in working with First State Squash students?

Academic Tutoring

Homework Assistance: It’s time to revisit those grade school days! Whether you have a passion for writing essays, a love for math, or eager to share your organizational and test-preparation skills, you’ll be an amazing guide during our daily homework sessions.
Academic Enrichment: High school students participate in weekly enrichment sessions to prepare them for college and careers. In these sessions, you’ll help students write resumes, prepare for the SAT, explore various careers, apply for summer jobs, and more.

Squash Coaching

If you are a passionate, dedicated energetic squasher and want to have a lot of fun, the squash court is calling your name! Squash coach volunteers engage with and encourage our middle school students as they learn the sport and improve their game. Designed by the squash coaches, students are guided in developing on court lesson plans for individual and team training. As a squash coach volunteer, you will thoroughly enjoy yourself, get some awesome exercise in, have a powerful impact on others and build a close connection to our FSS players.

Mentoring

From when a student first joins the program to the time he or she graduates from college, and on, you will be given the wonderful opportunity of being a role model. First State Squash prides itself in making sure that our students are properly matched with their respective mentors. This could be as simple as an introduction, or the student and mentor may find themselves having struck up a conversation in which a personal connection is made. First State Squash believes that mentors play a significant role in our students lives, as the student does for the mentor. Together the mentor and the student are given a remarkable opportunity to establish a lifelong, supportive and nurturing relationship.
